The advertisement at left appeared in the Winfield Daily Courier on Tuesday, July 1, 1958 but the Timber Creek watershed immediately northeast of Winfield received 6.5" of rain in 16 hours on July 3rd and then Winfield got another 1.3" of rain on July 4th.  The resultant flooding spread over the racetrack and forced the cancellation of this racing program.  The U. S. Weather Bureau reported it as a "once in 50 years rain" for the area.
