Emmett Walter Taylor

This photograph of Emmett Taylor of Wichita, Kansas in his Fronty big car was taken at the Bo Stearns’ Racetrack north of Wichita, Kansas on August 13, 1933.  He had also raced the car two weeks earlier (July 29, 1933) at Winfield, Kansas.  Taylor was born April 11, 1910 at Wichita.  He saw a midget race at Bo Stearns’ Racetrack in 1938 and decided to start driving the smaller cars himself.  He did so successfully becoming the uncrowned Kansas State Midget Champion in 1939.  He continued driving the midgets through the 1940s before becoming a sprint car owner in the 1950s for drivers like Bob Murra and Bob McKim.  Taylor died of a heart condition on February 18, 1963 in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, and is buried in the Wichita Park Cemetery in Wichita – Vickey Cummings collection
