Lewis spun Trahern's car out.  Gillette crashed into Trahern's stalled car between turns 3 and 4 while Scotty Talbert drove through the infield to keep from piling into the wreck.  The race was stopped and all of the cars were able to make the restart.

This was the first ever car race ever driven by then 15 year-old Scotty Talbert, Jr.

There was a driver change before this race when Stanley Trahern of Sublette, Kansas replaced Duane Caldwell as driver of the #15 jalopy.

Murphy and Williams both spun out in the fourth turn.

Cokeley was presented a steak dinner by Balock's cafe in Ulysses for winning this race.

This race was completed despite heavy rain that began falling on the final lap.

Fourth place in this race paid $20 from the posted purse.

15 year-old Scott "Scotty" Talbert, Jr. of Ulysses is seen here in the pits at Ulysses on this evening preparing to pull onto the racetrack to participate in his very first jalopy race.  The car was the 1940 Ford #66 owned and usually driven by his father, Scott Talbert, Sr. - Cokeley collection

Scott Talbert, Sr. had just purchased this car and was driving it for the first time on this evening.  For some reason, he switched cars with Scott "Scotty" Talbert, Jr. and drove his regular ride, his #66 Ford for the last two races of the evening - Cokeley collection

* Leo R. Siler (1931-2008) was paid $23 from the purse for finishing third in the first heat race, fourth in the first semi-final race, and eighth in the special 50-lap A feature.
