Track Records* for the One-Mile Racetracks at

OAKLEY, KANSAS

*Times have not been located for nearly all of the races run but these are the best records from the times currently known.

Automobile races at Oakley were run on a one-mile dirt track on the Widdifield farm north of town in 1926 and 1927.  A new American Legion one-mile dirt racetrack was built south of the Union Pacific right-of-way at Oakley for the local auto races beginning in 1928.  Both of these racetracks were purpose built for automobile racing.

*It is not known how fast this race was run but since it was the first race run at this distance on this racetrack, it had to have been run in record time.

*Times have not been located for nearly all of the races run but these are the best records from the times currently known.

**An article in the May 11, 1951 issue of the Oakley Graphic gave the track record set the preceding year but did not state who had set it or give any other details.

***Newspaper accounts say this engine was an Offenhauser but it appears to have been a HAL instead.
