Clifford “Cliff” Durr of Derby, Kansas owned this car that was driven by Clarence “Nut” Cokeley of Liberal, Kansas.  The car usually had a #7 painted on each door but, since Cokeley timed in 15th fastest in time trials on this day, they temporarily changed the number to #15 using sticky-backed paper numbers issued by race officials to cover up the regular number – Cokeley collection

This photo of Gene Coffman of Liberal, Kansas was taken late in the afternoon on this day in the infield of the racetrack at the Kansas State Fairgrounds in Hutchinson.  Note the paper #57 reflecting the fact that Coffman had timed in 57th position in time trials on this day in preparation for the Jalopy Nationals run the next day – Cokeley collection

Merrick Racing Incorporated issued this pit pass for the time trials on this afterooon - Loepp collection

1 The official program did not list a 13th position in time trials skipping from 12th to 14th position instead.

2 Richard M. “Dick” Hendershot (1925-1976) was fatally injured in a racing accident at Salina, Kansas.

3 Kenneth Ovid “K. O.” Christian (1914-1961) was fatally injured in a racing accident at Wichita, Kansas.

4 Listed car numbers in this column are the regular numbers of that car that were painted on the car when it arrived at the racetrack.

5 Listed car numbers in this column were assigned for this day only and were applied to the cars on sticky paper after time trials.
