Reed, Wooley, and Leep had all dropped out before the third lap was complete.

Copeland led until the sixteenth lap when he was passed by Woodside in the southwest turn.  Woodside then led the way until the 36th lap when he was passed on the back straightaway by Copeland who was followed closely by Peters.  Copeland and Peters then battled for the lead until the 48th lap when Peters took the lead for good coming out of the northwest turn.  Copeland followed Peters to the finish line by about two car lengths.
