#42 in this photo of late models lined up for a heat race on the front straightaway at Hutchinson is believed to have been the 1957 Ford convertible with that number that was driven by Ralph Wilhelm of Milwaukee, Wisconsin on this afternoon.  (Actually, judging by the chrome on the side of the car, it appears to more likely have been a 1957 Ford Ranchero with the top cut off to make it appear that it had been a convertible.)  The other cars in this photo are yet to be identified – Lehman collection

Only eight cars finished this race.  Dake, Hutcherson, Stott, and Wilhelm were involved in a crash in the south turn.  All were able to resume the race except Dake who was finished for the day.  Stott and Hutcherson dropped out later in the race.

Hendershot was flagged from the track when it appeared that his shock absorbers wore out.  His car was "Lurching in the turns and swerving dangerously as it exited to turns onto the straightaways."

Kosiski led the first 83 laps constantly fending off challenges by Derr.  Derr passed Kosiski on the 84th lap and led the rest of the race.  Kosiski was less than 50 yards behind Derr at the finish.
