Just after the start, Bryant’s #99 owned by Jelly Wilhelm of Wichita rode over a wheel of another car and overturned on the front straightaway. Hill’s #121 owned by Dean Wallace of Walton, Kansas and the car driven by Hecke both piled into Bryant’s car.
Brittendall lost a wheel and axle in the north turn.
Everhart spun into the muddy infield on the northwest turn and became stuck.

Maag made a 360 degree spin in the south turn but was able to keep going
Abell crashed his car into the south turn fence.
Everhart spun out in the south turn.
Beeson spun his car #07 out of the lead and into the muddy infield on the first lap of the race.
Wade actually finished the race in second place but a check of the engine in his Wylan Cattrell owned #14 revealed it to have 327 cu. in. which was over the limit of 305 cu. in. Cattrell also was from Wichita.
Mullens had finished in third place but a check of the engine in his car #20 revealed that it too was over the limit with 309 cu. in.

Salem crashed his car #22 into the outside wall in the south turn.
Shumard spun out his car #00 and then drove over a big mud embankment into the infield.
With only one lap remaining, Fuller’s right rear began schredding rubber. He slowed down and managed to complete the race on the rim.
Ross led the entire race and was a half-lap ahead of Lies at the finish.
