Moore had won the A feature on the first day of the Kansas State Modified Racing Championship (Saturday, September 18th) but would not be paid his share of the purse until the conclusion of these races on Sunday.   He had worn out his rear tires on Saturday and, not having funds to purchase new tires for Sunday’s races, he had approached a Tulsa Firestone tire dealer with a tire truck at the races that weekend to see if he could purchase two new rear tires on credit until he could collect the prize money he had already won that weekend.  The dealer denied the credit.

The engine in the Dale-Reed-driven Hap-Looney-owned #94 had expired on Saturday and they took that car home for the remainder of the weekend so Moore made arrangements to borrow the nearly new rear tires on that car.

Due to having won the feature on Saturday, Moore had to start this feature race in last place.  He worked his way through the field passing race leader Frusher on the final lap for the victory.

After the race, the Firestone dealer went to Moore’s pits and gave him two new rear tires for having won the race.  This was the same Firestone dealer who had denied Moore credit to purchase those same tires just hours earlier.  Moore then gave the two new tires to Looney to replace the tires he had borrowed from him to compete in the races on this afternoon.
