Beauchamp’s Chevrolet was equipped with fuel injection.
Burdick led the first 23 laps before being passed by Beauchamp who lead the rest of the way. Burdick followed Beauchamp closely until he spun out in the south turn, struck the fence, and blew out a tire. Burdick sped back to the pits but, in his haste, went the wrong way on the racetrack. That drew him a 2-lap penality. He was able to make repairs and rejoin the race though.
Morgan’s car dropped out with a “broken front axle” on the 34th lap.
Naber was a full lap behind Beauchamp at the end while Pash finished another two laps behind.
Only 14 cars finished this race.
* Bob Kosiski went on to compete in the Daytona “500” in 1960.
** Johnny Beauchamp (1923-1981) went on to compete in the Daytona “500” in 1959.
