Local driver Kenny Moore, driving the #88 Chevrolet owned by Leo Phillips, also of Winfield, finished a very close second place in the "A" Feature race run on September 22, 1968. It was a controversial finish as many observers felt that Moore had passed official winner Charlie Lutkie's #43 Chevrolet at the finish line to snare the win. Lou Steward, also of Winfield, finished fourth in the first semi-final race on this date and was paid $6.60 for his efforts. Jack Petty of Wichita, Kansas won the trophy dash.

This photo is of the start of one of the races run at Winfield on this date. The only two drivers in this photo that has been identified so far are Milton Ward of Great Bend, Kansas in the #21 Chevrolet that is in the front center of this photo and the #10 Ford (directly behind the #21) that was owned by Don Burnett of Wichita, Kansas and driven by Lou Steward of Winfield. If you can identify any of the other cars or drivers, please contact Bob Lawrence Ron Cyr photo from the Spencer Yarbrough V.F.W. post 3544 collection

This photo appears to be of the same race as the photo above it. The race was underway here and the cars were exiting the fourth (northwest) turn onto the front straightaway to complete another lap. Only four cars in this photo have been identified so far. The #21 Chevrolet leading the race was driven by Milton Ward. The #10 Ford shown as the third car from the right in this photo, was owned by Don Burnett and driven by Lou Steward. Running behind Steward and the second car from the right in this photo, is the brown #0 Ford owned and driven by Vern Allen. The car farthest to the right is the white #49 Ford that is shown running in tenth place in this photo. That car was owned and driven by Fred Cornelison of Wichita Ron Cyr photo from the Spencer Yarbrough V.F.W. post 3544 collection
Vern Allens 1955 Ford #0 is shown here parked on the infield at Winfield. This photo was taken looking southeasterly in direction and the infamous steel pipe guard railing is quite visible. More than one driver skewered his car on that pipe Vern Allen collection
The following is from a printed page distributed free to race fans that day by volunteers from the local V.F.W. Listed are drivers that race organizers thought might enter.
