This is what the Cowley County Fairgrounds racetrack near the west edge of Winfield, Kansas looks like today, although all but the front straightaway has grown over with grass making the actual racetrack difficult to see here.

The covered grandstand was built in 1928 at a cost of $35,000 and was said at the time to have a seating capacity of 5,000.

This panoramic photograph was taken on September 29, 2001 from a seat on the next to last row of the grandstand and pans from northeast to southeast.  The racetrack is narrow, only 40 feet wide, except for the front straightaway where it is 80 feet wide.

If you will move your browser bar (at the bottom of this page) to the right, it will pan 180° so you can see the whole racetrack and grandstand.
