Racers to Compete for State
Standings at July 5 Event Here

Competition for top position in state standings among the auto racing fraternity in Kansas is expected to be on a high level on Monday, July 5, at the auto races to be held at the Winfield fairgrounds under sponsorship of the Lions club.
A Winfield car owned by Joe Collins and driven by Will Forrest, Wichita, which has been a consistent winner this season, now stands in second place with 125 points.  High man on the totem pole now is Frank Lies, Wichita.  Both of these cars race under the Cejay Statium banner.
The lead man so far among the racers from the Robbins Speedway is Forrest Coleman, and Bill Nelson ranks second.

Keen Competition
Possibility that these standings may be changed at Wichita next Sunday is forseen.  However, by the time of the Winfield races there will be keen competition for the money and trophy.
At the racing program in Winfield May 31, the Collins entry driven by Forrest, won the heat, trophy and feature races.  Last Sunday night at Wichita, Forrest drove the Collins car to win in the heat race and trophy dash and came in for second money on the A feature race.

Expects 50 cars
Collins, who is director of the racing program for the Winfield Lions, says he expects around 50 cars again for the races here July 5.  He expects several from Ponca City this time.  A new speedway was opened there last Sunday and some of the top talent from Ponca is expected to compete with Kansas drivers in Winfield next Monday.
Big crowds have been attending the racing programs at the fairgrounds the past two seasons.  All persons attending are required to sit in the covered grandstand.  General admission admits to the grandstand also.  Children under 12 accompanied by an adult, are admitted free.
Time trials are scheduled to get under way soon after 1 p.m. followed by a full afternoon of races where spills and thrills are assured.
Johnnie Autry, Enid, will be the starter of the races.
