Benny Feely

Benny Feely, of Enid, Oklahoma, in the red shirt at left above, drove this red, green and white 1955 Chevrolet semi-late-model stock car in the races at Winfield, Kansas on August 16, 1970.  Fifth place in his heat race and fifth place in the consolation race earned him the fifteenth starting position in the A feature that day.  He broke the right rear axle exiting turn four on the third lap of the A feature which allowed the right rear wheel to come off.  The rear-end housing dug into the racetrack and sent the car tumbling down the front straight-away.  Feely was uninjured in the accident but rain set in before the race could be restarted and the remainder of the A feature was canceled.
