The Adams Hisso

The Adams Hisso was originally built by William Adams of Terre Haute, Indiana and driven by James Richard “Dick” Frost (a.k.a. “Frosty”) who is shown here in the car in 1932.  After Adams lost his life in an automobile accident in the early 1930s while driving home from a race, his sons sold the car to “someone in St. Louis, Missouri” and it was driven after that by Tommy Thompson of St. Louis.  It is unknown for certain but Thompson may have also been the one who purchased the car from the Adams family – Larry Sullivan photo

This photo of Dick Frost in the #97 Adams Hisso was taken in 1932.  The caption written on the back says it was taken the Jungle Park racetrack in Indiana but it might have been taken at the Sunflower track at Brazil, Indiana instead.  Car owner William Adams is in the dark jacket and bow tie standing next to Dick Frost.  The man in white to the right of Adams is believed to be Leo Krasek and the man to the right of Krasek is Louis Frost (Dick’s father) – Tom Williams collection
