Glenn “Pee Wee” Northern is shown here in second place in the third heat race driving the #4042 Merkler Special at Bloomington, Indiana on April 10, 1949.  That is Earl Green leading and Bob Carpenter in the Dizz Wilson owned #94 Ranger behind the Merkler Special.  Northern set the second quickest time of the day in time trials then won both his heat race and the feature in his first time ever to drive the car – Jeff Adams collection
