Dirt Track Auto Racing, 1919–1941
A Pictorial History - By Don Radbruch

Dirt Track Auto Racing 1919-1941 is the story of dirt track racing “between the wars”.  This was an exciting era as the racecars changed from mostly stripped Motel T Fords to the Model A-B Ford based machines to the wonderful Millers and Offenhausers.  Oddly, the racetracks changed very little and the county fair half-mile horse track remained the venue of most races.  The drivers were brave men who risked their lives on narrow, rutted and usually dusty ovals all over the United States and Canada.  A few drivers found “fame and fortune” and moved on to Indianapolis but most of these men have been forgotten.  Sadly, all too many drivers sacrificed their lives to the sport that they loved.

The book is divided in to regional chapters with a brief state by state history of the racing.  Most of the story is told in photo captions and in illustrated sidebars about the cars, the race tracks, and, especially, the men (and a few women) of a remarkable and little known era in auto racing.
