“Toots” Higgins “met with an accident when a steering knuckle snapped off” causing the car to crash into the fence.

Higgins survived the accident with only minor injuries but, by the time the news of his accident had reached downtown Wichita, the story had grown to say that a score, or more, were either dead or injured.
