“Winfield was a terrific spot.  It was smooth and a good racetrack.  They were all good but Winfield was a little better.  I loved it.  They did a good job of preparing it.  They had a good, enthusiast crowd and I always sort of judged a racetrack by the crowd.  They paid a bounty for any Expert rider who could win there twice.  They paid me to come there and be a spoiler and that’s what I did.  I got off to a bad start in the final and had to come from last but won it.  I still hear about that from the Dovels when I see them.” - Sid Carlson in 2005
