“I was in front entering the north turn.  As I was coming out of the turn I hit a hole in the track and my front wheel and handelbars went lock-to-lock sideways.  At that time, Mike Sherman and Dave Burleigh both passed me.  I went from first to third in a flash.  At the finish line, we got the yellow flag meaning one lap to go.  I passed Mike Sherman going into the first turn and then passed the Harley with Dave Burleigh in the north and final turn to win the race.  Both Mike and Dave came over to my pit area to say ‘Congrats’.  Dave said he did not think I was going to make the north turn as I passed him just going in to the corner.  My reply was, 'I had to pass that Harley rider no matter what!’ “           - - - George Holter

“Everyone was changing places several times a lap.  It was a very exciting race.  Holter was flying and did just what he said.  It really boiled down to who happened to be where on the last lap, kind of like NASCAR at Talladega.  If the race had lasted another lap or had been shorter, I’m sure the results would have been very different.”        - - - Mike Sherman
